David Jackson writes in 2020 : This took place in Summer 1949 with Mr Mansfield. It was in Lathkill Dale and was a result of a physical geography lesson from Miss Silk on rivers from source to mouth, of which Lathkill is a complete example. We travelled to Bakewell by train , walked to Monyash and back down the river to Youlgrave and then to Bakewell- a very long walk and little equipment – look at Alan Rudden with a double-breasted suit in the cave’s mouth. It was a special day which we all talked about whenever meeting up. We could stay a long time outside then : double summer time.
