Tobias and the Angel - I am pretty sure that the 'old man' is me. I played the part of Tobit, father to Tobias (Phil Roberts). I was heavily made up and only appeared in the first and last acts, I seem to remember. I was first on the stage and had to shake like an old man. When someone in my family saw me on stage, they thought that I because I was shaking I had stage fright! Nothing could have been further from the truth. I loved the role and the entire experience. I think I had much of the first scene of the first act on stage to myself. I remember that at one point I had to offer someone some refreshment - usually exotic fruit - and that one night Phil Payne placed a cabbage among the apricots and pomegranates and dared me to offer this northern greenleaf rather than the Mediterranean fruit. I did, of course, and there was a huge ripple of a laugh around the audience. I don't think Mr Hough, the producer, was pleased. Caption from Chris Ratcliffe.
