Sad news: Les Gibbs Passed away peacefully at home with his wife Debbie by his side on Thursday 2nd December 2021, aged 81 years. A service for Les will be held at St Andrews Church, Swanwick on Thursday 23rd December at 10:00 followed by a burial at Leabrooks Cemetery. Les was a Work Study Assistant with SDWB and STW based at Raynesway before becoming Safety Assistant to Alan Sherratt. Some clarification about the free parking at some STW sites!
It probably was only given to those that were in The Severn Trent Retirement Association, but I now think it is open to anyone who has a Severn Trent Payslip. The permits for your car window are valid for the pay and display sites that don't have barriers and rising bollards such as Staunton Harold, Linacre, Upper Derwent Valley, Foremark, Draycote Water and Tittesworth Water. You also get free parking at Lake Vyrnway, Thornton, Llyn Clywedog, Priorslee, Shustoke and Trimpley. To get the permit you will need to go to the Ranger's office at Reception at Carsington Res. You will need to take with you a current wage slip and some means of photo identification. You are able to have up to 2 permits if you have two cars. They will check your details against a database and may issue your parking permit there or send through the post. Whilst you are at Carsington they will include your car number plate(s) on the parking database that uses number plate recognition software. The sticker alone does NOT give you free parking at Carsington main car park - you'll need to be registered! There maybe other places that you can do this in the ST region and rules and parking policy may change. I cannot be held responsible if you have to pay a parking fee or unluckily get a fine!

Many of you will have received your STW free parking pass for Severn Trent amenties such as Foremark , Linacre, Upper Derwent Valley etc. and wondered about the ommission of Carsington. I can confirm that you will also be registered for your car at Carsington main car park which uses the Auto numberplate recognition system.

The free parking display disc no longer works at Carsington. A new system has been introduced and you will need to exempt your car number plate by registering your car (s) on Severn Trent's computer database. Next time you call in just speak to reception. You will need to renew this annually. This is probably the same now at other ST recreation sites.

Obituary for HUGH ROBERTS - By Terry Tricker - October 2014
My very good friend Hugh Roberts. Hugh passed away on Sunday (26th October 2014 two months short of his 93rd birthday. He has been in a nursing home in Spondon for the past two years but this hadn’t suppressed his sense of humour and zest for life. Until a few weeks ago we were still continuing our tradition of nearly forty years of going for a pint every week or two. In fact on one of our last pub lunches we called in to Derby Sewage Works on our return and the current site manager, Andy Blake, kindly spent time with us and took us around a works that has been totally transformed since we were there last. He said afterwards that it was like taking two enthusiastic young boys into a sweet shop!!
Hugh trained as an apprentice with the ‘National Engine Co.’ and shortly after he had finished he joined the Navy and served in North Africa during the war servicing mainly marine reconnaissance aircraft. After the war he went back to National installing their large engines around the UK and overseas including a stint in the Caribbean. It was from here that he joined the water Industry initially at Rye Meads Sewage Works in Hertfordshire before moving to Derby in the mid-fifties to take responsibility for the new engine room and pumping station there. Like many of us he transferred to Severn-Trent in 1974 and held maintenance management roles until he retired in 1988. His sense of humour, professionalism and desire to help colleagues get the job sorted made him a popular member of staff.
Shortly after our nostalgic trip to Derby Works, Hugh suffered a serious fall followed by a stroke. Communication was then difficult but despite his plight he still retained his sense of fun, he had lots of laughs and still was more worried about the people around him than himself.

You may remember that George Sorocold was the pioneering engineer that first installed a water wheel driven pump and water supply system to the town of Derby.
Sad news - I hear that Ken Wilkins has died on the 11th May 2014. Ken worked to British Gas before joining STW in I'm told about 1974.
